Rare Earth Minerals (Lanthanides)

As defined by IUPAC, rare earth elements or rare earth metals are a set of 17 chemical elements in the periodic table, specifically the fifteen lanthanides plus scandium and

yttrium. Scandium and yttrium are considered rare earth elements since they tend to occur in the same ore deposits as the lanthanides and exhibit similar chemical properties.

Despite their name, rare earth elements (with the exception of the radioactive promethium) are relatively plentiful in the Earth's crust, with cerium being the 25th most abundant element at 68 parts per million (similar to copper). However, because of their geochemical properties, rare earth elements are typically dispersed and not often found in

concentrated and economically exploitable forms. The few economically exploitable deposits are known as rare earth minerals. It was the very scarcity of these minerals

(previously called "earths") that led to the term "rare earth". The first such mineral discovered was gadolinite, a compound of cerium, yttrium, iron, silicon and other elements.

This mineral was extracted from a mine in the village of Ytterby in Sweden; many of the rare earth elements bear names derived from this location.

Rare Earth Minerals in Green Earth Technology

Numbers 57 through 71, along with number 37, of the periodic table of elements are collective known as the rare earth minerals. These particular elements are garnering a lot

of attention these days due to the well-known problems which are rising from our dependence as a society on fossil fuels. These particular elements of the periodic table hold

great promise for unlocking new sources of green energy.

Rare earth minerals have the potential to revolution the way a car works, because they can play a major role in the functioning of hybrid electric vehicles.

The technology involved here is called the "rare earth permanent magnet." This device works by stimulating the flow of electrons from one atom to another and by doing so,

it can generate a substantial amount of electrical energy. These electric traction drives can supplement or even totally replace the internal combustion engine, thus doing away

to a significant extent or even entirely with the need to burn fossil fuels in order to make your car run. In short, the possibilities lurking in rare earth minerals for green technologies

is immense.

1.13 Seven levels

In homeopathy symptoms can be categorized in different ways.

Vithoulkas: A very well known division is into physical, emotional and mental. The division of the experience of living creatures into categories is of the utmost importance.

This is so because the division is hierarchical. In the division in physical, emotional and mental, the physical level is the lowest in the hierarchy and the mental is the highest.

This hierarchy is shown by healing that occurs first at the highest hierarchical level. This is reflected in what is known as the laws of Hering, one of them stating that healing

goes from inside to outside. The question is what kind of division is the best, the most accurate and precise. The division in 3, as Vithoulkas has described, is not incorrect,

but somewhat crude. I use a division into 7 levels. These 7 levels correspond with the 7 series of the periodical system. It corresponds with the levels of the organs.

Levels:

7. The physical level, the level of material facts, the body. This is the level that regular medicine has reduced itself to.

6. Sensation of the complaints. The word "feeling" is also used for sensation, but that can be confusing, as "feeling" is also used for emotions and intuition.

5. The third level is that of emotions, the fears, love and hate, desire and aversion, anger and so forth. It's also the level of the will, the desire to be someone.

4. This also is a level of emotions but on a higher level. It's more cooperation, feeling of belonging to a group.

3. The level of thought. It is the level of belief and judgment, also known as delusion. Sankaran uses the concept of basic delusion, expresses itself in language, in words.

2. This is the level of image. It's vision and insight. Together with the thought level they are called mental. The image level though is essentially different from the thought level.

The expression "one picture can tell more than 100 pages of text" exemplifies this. Images give insight; words can induce images that give insight. This is also the level of the life story, the experience on earth.

1. This level is about  knowing. This is also known as intuition. It's a very abstract level, archetypical.

I use this level model in the evaluation of cases. The higher the level of healing the deeper the healing is. A level of change in insight or change in life story is one of the most important changes, more important than a general feeling of well-being.

Comparison levels of Vithoulkas

The levels of Vithoulkas can be seen easily. His mental level is the combination of the thought and image level. Emotional level is a combination of the sensation, and emotional levels. The physical is the same.

Comparison levels of Sankaran

Sankaran's levels have many similarities but also differences. The biggest difference however is that Sankaran describes his levels as cyclical instead of hierarchical.

Sensation level can be found in the sensation level and Image level. The concept "Sensation" in a way is problematic. Regular medicine sees it often as something physical, as

part of the  nervous system and it's used accordingly. But a sensation cannot be materially measured, which makes it clear that it's not physical, although closely related to the

body. This close relation can also be recognized from the fact that sensation is connected to parts of the body, something that's seldom said of emotions. One has a "stitching

pain in the head", but one seldom speaks about "anger in my hand". At the other hand, "sensations" are applicable to many levels. So one can speak about a "prickly thought"

of "warm emotions". This is due to their archetypical aspect. Sankaran has applied that by transferring sensations into gestures. But gestures have a spatial aspect and are thus

at the image level. I see this as confusion: the sensation is not just a sensation anymore and has become an image, a symptom of level 2. That's why Sankaran can centralize it

to the "Vital Sensation". Sankaran's Name level is on the Thought level. Sankaran's Delusion level is a combination of the Thought and Image level.

2.4 Power another very important concept for the Lanthanides. This is in common with the rest of the Gold series. The difference is that the Lanthanides direct the power to themselves. It's more directed inwardly, to their inner world. It's more self-control, whereas the rest of the Gold series directs the power to the outer world.

The power theme also applies to the technical influence of the Lanthanides on our culture.

The Lanthanides are essential and indispensable for the electronic and digital revolution. Strong magnets such as only the Lanthanides can provide, are necessary for miniaturizing electric motors. They are used in all kinds of light equipment like lasers, CD's and color television. In philosophy power represents the ideas of the Enlightenment and the universal declaration of human rights. These ideas stand for autonomy and freedom, to think and express oneself. Equality of all people is the consequence of autonomy for everyone. The flowering of arts, sciences and technology can only take place in this kind of spirit.

The name of Promethium, one of the Lanthanides, comes from Prometheus. He stole fire from the Gods and gave it to man. Fire is one of the first forces that humanity could control. Control of fire is symbolic of the understanding of the powers of nature and thus being able to control them. Pandora's box is very well known. Pandora's box is symbolic

of the powers of nature. Once you have knowledge of them, you can do immense good with them, but also produce enormous disasters. The knowledge of the atomic bomb cannot be wiped out anymore.

Stage 1: Caesium Just exerts power, but in a naive way. No one will be impressed by it, they will tend to be laughed at.

Stage 2: Barium asks himself what his power is. He fears using it, not knowing what it will bring or what harm it will cause. He fears it can provoke a reaction that will harm him.

He has tends to deny his power and become passive. He can develop a survival strategy for the weak and powerless, which is not dangerous at all and everyone laughs about.

Stage 3: Lanthanum Tries to find out where his power is and how he can use it.

Stage 4: Cerium is stuck in some no man's land where he cannot exert any power. He has to do it in his inside world.

Stage 5: Praseodymium is very cautious with his power. He fears he will be depleted easily by exerting his power over things that are of no use. He wants to find out how he can use his power, before he has squandered it in vain.

Stage 6: Neodymium has to prove his power by doing all kinds of things that are difficult, dangerous and forbidden.

Stage 7: Promethium researches further possibilities of where he can find and exert his power.

Stage 8: Samarium exerts really significant power under pressure. They build and realize big things with their continuous exertion of power.

Stage 9: Europium knows he has power, but he still has doubts about it. His tactic is to be clever instead of doing things with his power.

Stage 10: Gadolinium knows that everyone has equal power and that it is harmonious. Things are proper the way they are.

Stage 11: Terbium has to maintain his power. He has to go on and cannot relax out of fear it will slip through his fingers.

Stage 12: Dysprosium has to defend himself and others against attacks. His power is used as a defense against everything that's unclear and threatening.

Stage 13: Holmium uses his power selectively. He uses it only in situations that he can handle. In situations where he feels he will be overpowered he will withdraw.

Stage 14: Erbium feels he has no real power anymore. Even when he has power internally, he feels he has no power to exert it in the world. But he covers it up behind a mask, not showing his lack of power.

Stage 15: Thulium feels he's losing his power. Even when he has power, it's useless in the situation he's in.

Stage 16: Ytterbium feels like an outsider who doesn't need to exert any power. It has no use, he feels it is in vain.

Stage 17: Lutetium uses his power freely, by his own choice. It's a kind of game, that will give him the most freedom.

Lanthanides: homeopaths as patients

Know thyself

About 10 years ago, I started experimenting with the Lanthanides. It took five years to develop the picture of the Lanthanides to such a level that it could be published in a book, "Secret Lanthanides". Since then there has been a lot of experience with the Lanthanides and many cases have been published. The Lanthanides have become an important part

of homeopathic practice that I often wonder how I could have done without them in the past. In fact, we cannot do without them because they are essentially different from

all the other elements in the Periodic Table.

At first, I mostly used them in old, stubborn, unsolved cases but these days, they are very often prescibed as a first remedy.

Besides the fact that they have become invaluable, it is also the beauty of the pictures of the Lanthanides that makes them very attractive. One could say that the Lanthanides

bring us as homeopaths back to ourselves. It is the quality of reflection of the Lanthanides that is also found in the homeopathic practice.

In this article, I will discuss the picture of the Lanthanides as a whole by showing the state of homeopaths in general; the qualities needed to become a homeopath can be found

in the Lanthanides.

Serving

The first motivation to become a homeopath is the desire to help people. To want to make people better, healthier, and happier. This is a serving quality, the desire to serve people and humanity. It is not only a desire to help specific people but people in general, and even to make humanity better, as a whole. This aspect is very strong in the Gold series, of which the Lanthanides are part.

Understanding

A second motive is the desire to understand health and disease. They want to understand themselves, their body, psyche, and soul. By seeing how disease and cure work in patients day after day, they get an understanding of how it works in themselves. This is not only rational understanding but a very practical and emotional understanding.

Aversion to doctors

Homeopaths often have an aversion to conventional medicine and doctors. This aversion to doctors is known for certain remedies like Arnica. In Arnica, we see the symptom

“he says he is well and sends the doctor away.” This attitude is a Lanthanide attitude. The Asteraceae, of which Arnica is a member, have a high content of Lanthanides and have the picture of the Lanthanides as part of their own picture. A strong motivation to become a homeopath is that one can treat oneself and is not dependent on conventional medicine anymore.

Freedom

This aversion to conventional medicine is strongly connected to an aversion to be taken over. Homeopaths and Lanthanides want to be their own boss, they want to decide for themselves and they do not want to be dominated. That is just what conventional medicine does, it takes you over. Doctors tend to dominate patients and to overstep their boundaries. They fill patients with pills, give them injections and vaccinations, and in the most extreme form put their patients under narcosis and operate on them.

The will of the patient is then completely lost. This tendency to dominate is also seen in the way doctors often behave, as if they know better than the patient: they tend to

decide for the patient rather than giving advice.

Homeopaths want to decide for themselves and do not want to be dominated or taken over. For the Lanthanides, freedom is a central word. It can be expressed in many ways:

a word that is often used is ‘own’. They want to go their own way, they want to live their own lives, they want to do it their own way. And, of course, the opposite words are

also very important: they do not want to be dominated, dictated to, told what to do or be limited by others.

Another factor that contributes to this attitude is that homeopaths have a kind of knowing of their inner world. They have an intuitive understanding that diseases are coming

from the inside and not from the outside. This in contrast with conventional medicine and doctors, where the cause of disease is seen as something coming from the outside

world; they fight against external causes like bacteria, viruses and fungi. But when the cause is in the inner world then this fight with external causes is a useless and detrimental action. So there is a conflict of philosophy between homeopathy and conventional medicine. There is a tendency to go inside instead of acting in the outside world.

Secret

An important word in the Lanthanides is secret. This is connected to the former theme of the inner world. The inner world is a secret world and from ancient times, groups that

were busy with the inner world and tried to develop that were seen as secret societies (Rosicrucians and Freemasons). The homeopathic movement as a whole is not a secret movement as such, but it is on the side-lines of society. It is not mainstream and is often completely misunderstood, so it has some secret aspects. In some countries, homoeopathy has been forbidden even to this day, and thus has become underground and secret.

Philosophy

We also see a strong desire for philosophy in homeopaths. This is also a strong aspect of Lanthanides. It is connected to the desire to understand. The understanding is not limited

to a technical understanding but has to do with the understanding of oneself, the world, the universe, and the essence of it all. It goes into the depth of life; it is the desire to understand what life is about, where it is coming from and where it is going to.

Deep

This is connected to another word that is frequently used, the word ‘deep’. There is a desire to understand things in the depth and not only superficially. It is the depth that we

can find in philosophy and religion, albeit not in superficial forms of religion: it is more a spiritual experience of life. It is often seen in homeopaths and it is an integral aspect of

the Lanthanides. Patients who need Lanthanides often use the word ‘deep’. Their pains are deeply located, the experiences are very deep.

Postscript

Looking back at the development of the Lanthanides over the last 10 years, one can see a tremendous expansion of the cases and knowledge. It fills me with great gratitude to

have these remedies available in my practice. There are many cases for which the Lanthanides have given marvellous cures and for which I would not have been able to do much without them.

There is such a random beauty in the pictures of the Lanthanides. They are often so akin to the state of those who have chosen to be homeopaths. In the beginning of my practice,

we homeopaths often commented about the contradiction between the success we had with our patients and the poor success rate when it came to treating ourselves: we joked that homeopaths were incurable! The Lanthanides have changed this situation and there is now much more that can be done for homeopaths themselves. It is as if homoeopathy is giving something back to homeopaths.

[C.M. Sturza]

Highly electropositive and reactive metals. The spectral and magnetic properties of lanthanide ions are remarkable. Lanthanide complexes as well as their simple salts are used more and more in fields such as Biology, Biochemistry and Medicine.

The characteristics of Lanthanides and their corresponding clinical behavior show that "they are different": we could say they truly bring out the third dimension; therefore their

life is not lived in the "plane". By investigating their profound nature, we will notice that they do not fit into the theme of power over others and leadership. Alternatively, at least, these Gold series themes follow quite the opposite direction in the case of lanthanides. The struggle for power over others, dominance over otherness, peculiar to the Gold series,

is reversed by the lanthanides into the opposite direction: mastery of the self, not over others, self- independence and self-government expressed as autonomy. Lanthanide problematic is about acquiring, preserving and controlling the self. The Self is their battlefield, their aspiration horizon. To dominate or be dominated, to own or be owned is

what they abhor the most.

The use of minerals as seen through the lens of the theory of elements, an approach initiated by Scholten in his 1993 book Homoeopathy and Minerals, continued, enriched and nuanced in Homoeopathy and the Elements (1996), reaches its acme with Secret Lanthanides in 2005.

Why acme, you may ask? Because this entire path, strengthened by accumulated experimental and clinical confirmations from colleagues who have followed his footsteps since

1994 up until now, made possible the sudden introduction of a whole group of elements and compounds into the therapeutic arsenal of homoeopathy: the lanthanides. This is an unprecedented fact in the history of the homoeopathic medicine.

Another factor that contributes to this attitude is that homeopaths have a kind of knowing of their inner world. They have an intuitive understanding that diseases are coming from the inside and not from the outside. This in contrast with conventional medicine and doctors, where the cause of disease is seen as something coming from the outside world; they fight against external causes like bacteria, viruses and fungi.

The inner world is a secret world and from ancient times, groups that were busy with the inner world and tried to develop that were seen as secret societies, such as the Rosicrucians and Freemasons.

It is the depth that we can find in philosophy and religion, albeit not in superficial forms of religion: it is more a spiritual experience of life. It is often seen in homeopaths and it is an integral aspect of the Lanthanides. Patients who need Lanthanides often use the word ‘deep’. Their pains are deeply located, the experiences are very deep.

Postscript

Looking back at the development of the Lanthanides over the last 10 years, one can see a tremendous expansion of the cases and knowledge. It fills me with great gratitude to have these remedies available in my practice. There are many cases for which the Lanthanides have given marvellous cures and for which I would not have been able to do much without them.

There is such a random beauty in the pictures of the Lanthanides. They are often so akin to the state of those who have chosen to be homeopaths. In the beginning of my practice, we homeopaths often commented about the contradiction between the success we had with our patients and the poor success rate when it came to treating ourselves: we joked that homeopaths were incurable! The Lanthanides have changed this situation and there is now much more that can be done for homeopaths themselves. It is as if homoeopathy is giving something back to homeopaths.

[Jackie Clason]

Lives in Martha’s Vineyard (attracts a certain type patient).

Jackie says she uses a lot of Carc. in her practice (makes sense: they are nature lovers and > the ocean), it also makes sense that the Vineyard would attract the Lanthanides.

The metaphor of living on an island reflects Lanthanide themes:

·    Life on the island is a struggle due to the high cost of living, and people patch together different creative ways to support themselves

·    compassionate for humanity (typical themes of the Buddhist spiritual journey/Jackie herself is a practicing Buddhist).

·    Independence and self-individuation are other Lanthanide themes which the Vineyard fosters.

·    On the other hand, if they get stuck in isolation (the Vineyard can be a lonely isolated place in winter).

·    they can develop social anxiety and deep depression.

The metaphor of living on an island reflects Lanthanide themes:

·    They escape conventional society . . .

·    to be independent and autonomous,

·    to join a community of free thinkers;

·    the Vineyard is known for being progressive politically, spiritually, in environmental concerns.

·    People can hide from their past …

·    and find ways to invent themselves on a deeper, more authentic level, searching for new self-definition

·    Life on the island is a struggle due to the high cost of living, and people patch together different creative ways to support themselves

·    They can move from isolation and self-reflection . . .

·    to compassion for humanity (typical themes of the Buddhist spiritual journey, and Jackie herself is a practicing Buddhist).

·    Independence and self-individuation are other Lanthanide themes which the Vineyard fosters

·    On the other hand, if they get stuck in isolation (the Vineyard can be a lonely isolated place in winter),

·    they can develop social anxiety and deep depression . . .

After an epidemic of alcoholism on the island. Jackie offered her own observation that addictions and especially alcoholism are a recurring theme in her Lanthanide cases. While this is not part of Jan Scholten’s or Lou Klein’s teachings on the Lanthanides, Jackie suggested it may become a Lanthanide theme if others share her clinical experience, although she noted that so far the Lanthanide remedies have not had a curative effect for her clients’ addictions in the way that, say, Amethyst has in a few of her cases.

Observed is that addiction (alcoholism) are a recurring theme in Lanthanide cases. Not by Jan Scholten’s or Lou Klein’s. Jackie Clason suggested it may become a Lanthanide theme if others share her clinical experience, although she noted that so far the Lanthanide remedies have not had a curative effect for her clients’ addictions in the way that, say, Amethyst has in a few of her cases.

This seminar provided an excellent review with illustrative cases of the Lanthanide themes from Scholten’s book. She challenged us to identify not only the Lanthanide but also the salt for the cases she presented. She said her experience bore out Scholten’s observation that the Lanthanides work much better if the correct salt is chosen rather than using the metallicum (pure) form as

he did at first.

A unique aspect of the seminar was the differential with other families of remedies.

Like the Compositae., Lanthanides have themes of

* becoming a self, building an identity, a personality, so they may be

* childlike or feel childish, immature, not yet individuated

* boundary issues which shows up as problems with vaccinations, aversion to doctors and to intrusions, and easily feeling offended

Drug. remedies have themes similar to the Lanthanides:

              * feelings of being inward, disconnected or detached.

              * and they can have sensations like electric shocks.

Drug. and magnet. remedies have in common with Lanthanides:

              * “magnetized” as a theme; for example, TV. or Nintendo addiction, very suggestible to charismatic person or people, strong attraction to massage, hypnosis, recreational

                        drugs

              * the relationships of both groups have an attraction-repulsion theme.

Hormone remedies (pituitary, thyroid, adrenal or other glands, or from ovaries) and the Lanthanide remedies both have:

* control issues

* “inward-directed”

* spirituality

Bird. remedies have the highest degree of overlap with Lanthanide themes. Both groups have:

* eyes/observing

* freedom

* hiding

* idealism

Aversion to doctors

Homeopaths often have an aversion to conventional medicine and doctors. This aversion to doctors is known for certain remedies like Arnica. In Arnica, we see the symptom “he says he is well and sends the doctor away.” This attitude is a Lanthanide attitude. The Asteraceae, of which Arnica is a member, have a high content of Lanthanides and have the picture of the Lanthanides as part of their own picture. A strong motivation to become a homeopath is that one can treat oneself and is not dependent on conventional medicine anymore (Sulph.).

Freedom

This aversion to conventional medicine is strongly connected to an aversion to be taken over. Homeopaths and Lanthanides want to be their own boss, they want to decide for themselves and they do not want to be dominated. That is just what conventional medicine does, it takes you over. Doctors have a tendency to dominate patients and to overstep their boundaries. They fill patients with pills, give them injections and vaccinations, and in the most extreme form put their patients under narcosis and operate on them. The will of the patient is then completely lost. This tendency to dominate is also seen in the way doctors often behave, as if they know better than the patient: they tend to decide for the patient rather than giving advice.

Homeopaths want to decide for themselves and do not want to be dominated or taken over. For the Lanthanides, freedom is a central word. It can be expressed in many ways: a word that is often used is ‘own’. They want to go their own way, they want to live their own lives, they want to do it their own way. And, of course, the opposite words are also very important: they do not want to be dominated, dictated to, told what to do or be limited by others.

Inner world

Another factor that contributes to this attitude is that homeopaths have a kind of knowing of their inner world. They have an intuitive understanding that diseases are coming from the inside and not from the outside. Europium C7 zu gleichen Teil gemischt und gemeinsam hochpotenziert)/Lanthane B (Ausgangsstoff: Gadolinum C7; Terbium C7; Dysprosium C7; Holmium C7; Erbium C7; Thulium C7;

Ytterbium C7; Lutetium C7 zu gleichen Teil gemischt und gemeinsam hochpotenziert)].

The remedy induces an immune response and so restores the inadequate functioning of the human immune system.

This remedy for HIV/Aids was based on Jan Scholtens theory that all elements of the Periodic System have an effect that can be predicted on the basis of their position in the periodic table.

The remedy is called Iquilai (equilibrium/balance)/prepared from the Lanthanides group which has a strong positive influence on the immune system. In a pilot study into the efficacy of Iquilai involving some 228 patients, the remedy has proven to be highly effective in improving the clinical status of patients with HIV/AIDS. The study showed that the remedy increased Karnofsky

scores and CD 4 counts in a way that is statistically significant, indicating that the quality of life improved and AIDS symptoms were reduced.

Pregnant women, babies and children can take the remedy. The whole treatment consists of a total of 10 granules, used over a period of six months.

Within 2 weeks a clear improvement of the quality of life was frequently observed. To date no side effects were observed and their occurrence is not likely. A characteristic of all homeopathic medicines. The problem of resistance frequently seen in standard ART therapy cannot arise. The patient fights the viruses and bacteria that cause the illness from the inside out. The remedy is cheap and easy to produce. New premises are that the rise in CD4 cell count leads to a sustainable restoration of the immune system.

Viral mutation and resistance against antiviral treatment, due to regular pharmaceutical treatment (ART), does not cause a problem.

We expect the viral load to come to a low or non-detectable level, in which health is restored and ??the patient is no longer infectious??.

Instruction: One granule of IQUILAI for 5 days, then 1 granule each month.
